Tone generators are used to produce special tones for paging systems. These tones are typically used to signal an event to all within the paging area. These events are broken into three categories. Start and stop of an event, such as shift changes, breaks, classroom period start and ending, things like this. The second is emergency tones. Tones range for fire alerts, tornado alerts, immediate evacuation alerts etc. The third is simply chimes and ringers. Loud ringers to signify a phone ringing or a door being opened, door chime, door bell and so forth.
